A FanCoolo block normally runs its PHP template on every page load. With Static output turned on, we render the block once, store the HTML in the post, and serve that stored HTML instead. Visitors get the same markup with less work on the server.
Turn it on
- Open the block in the FanCoolo editor.
- Open the block Settings sidebar.
- Scroll to Static Output and switch on Store the rendered HTML.
- Save the block.
From then on, each post stores the block's HTML when the post is saved. To store it in posts that already use the block, run Re-render static blocks (see below).
The safety check
You don't decide whether a block is safe to store. FanCoolo reads the block's template, and the symbols it uses, and gives one of three answers:
| Result | What you see | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Safe | The toggle is available, no warning. Hover the info icon for the reason. | The output is built only from the block's own attributes. |
| Pins content | The toggle is available, with a Freezing pins content warning. | The output reads content that can change, such as posts, custom fields, menus, terms, site settings or the date. The stored HTML keeps today's values until the block is rendered again. |
| Not available | The toggle is disabled, with a Not available for this block note. | The output depends on the current request: the page being viewed, the current post, the URL, the logged-in user or a nonce. One stored result would be wrong for everyone else. |
The note names the function or value that caused the result. Click Re-check to run the check again after you change the template.
Blocks that hold inner blocks are always rendered live, even with the toggle on.
When the template changes
- Saving a static block re-renders the posts that use it in the background.
- If an edit makes the block request-dependent, the setting is ignored and the block is rendered live again. The panel then says the block is still marked for static output but that the setting is ignored.
Re-render static blocks
Use this to refresh the stored HTML of every static block at once, for example when the content a block shows has changed.
- In the FanCoolo editor, open the ⋮ menu in the top bar.
- Click Re-render static blocks.
- Check the list of blocks with static output and click Re-render.
Posts are rewritten in the background. The menu item shows progress while it runs, and a notice reports how many posts were rewritten, unchanged or failed. The run is safe to interrupt and safe to repeat. The item is disabled when no block has static output.
Turn it off
Switch off Store the rendered HTML and save the block. FanCoolo removes the stored HTML from your posts in the background, and the block runs its template on every page load again. Deleting a static block removes its stored HTML from posts as well.
